A UK Permanent Residence Permit is a credit card-sized card that demonstrates a person’s status in the United Kingdom. It can be used to demonstrate the right to work and/or study, as well as to gain access to public resources. BRPs offer applicants, businesses, and services a more secure, simpler, and speedier way to verify someone’s identification and permission to be in the UK.

Instead of a vignette with the complete grant of leave to stay in the UK, successful applicants will receive a vignette (or sticker) in their passport good for 30 days. This allows the applicant to enter the UK and pick up their BRP at a designated post office. The post office and the 30-day travel window will be decided based on the information supplied on the application form.

All BRPs must be picked up at a designated Post Office within 10 days of their arrival in the UK. The passport vignette is a transitory document and should not be accepted as proof of eligibility to work, train, study, or claim benefits.
